Caring For Your Shower Bench

30th Sep 2016

Investing in a shower bench is a smart move. It not only is helpful for the elderly or physically challenged, but it makes things more convenient for those shaving their legs. Along with that, a beautiful teak shower bench creates an interesting contrast between the wood and the tile in the shower. Like any other investment, it needs to be well taken care of in order to keep it looking its best throughout the years.

Read on for a few cleaning tips for your shower bench. When you put in the time to clean it correctly, you’ll be rewarded with a bench that’s both beautiful and functional.

  • After using the bench, make sure to wipe it down. When moisture is left on wood for long periods of time, mold will eventually start forming.
  • If you’re washing the bench, you can simply use mild soap and lukewarm water. Be sure to gently rinse off the bench, then thoroughly towel it dry
  • An easy cleaning solution is filling a spray bottle with warm water and white distilled vinegar, then either spray down the bench thoroughly, or spray the bench then sponge it. Rinse with warm water, then towel dry. By doing this weekly, mold can effectively kept at bay.
  • If mold or mildew does collect on the bench, a paste made from baking soda will remove it nicely. Use a cup of baking soda, and mix it with a few tablespoons of water. In order to thicken the paste, add a little more water.
  • When cleaning, never use bleach, since it can eventually cause cracking in the teak.
